Hello! My name is Penny Li. I have taken the IELTS test twice in total. The first time I got a 7 and the second time I got a 7.5. Now I would like to provide some useful tips for taking the IELTS test.
n Listening:
I like to listen to BBC news whenever I get time. It not only helps me to get used to British accent but also helps me to practice speaking English with a British accent. I also like to listen to British programmers. Programmers about celebrities, gossips, or any other kind rather than news still are very helpful.
n Reading:
I read English magazines and online news quite often. When I was taking the reading test, I underlined important lines and it helped me to answer the questions more quickly and efficiently.
n Writing:
Before the test, I had written more than 5 short essays as my practice. That helped me to improve my writing skills. After I have written the essays, I gave them to my British friends to correct the mistakes for me and give me some advice.
n Speaking:
Don’t be afraid of talking to foreigners in English! Practice makes perfect. I like to speak to foreigners in English whenever I get a chance. It is really helpful! Sometimes people may say accent doesn’t really matter in the IELTS speaking test. However, I would like to advise you to practice speaking with a British accent. I am sure it would help a lot with your speaking section.
