A Free Spirit-Cheer Chen
Cheer Chen (陳綺貞) isn’t the average Taiwanese pop star. She prefers to shy away from cameras and work behind the scenes. However, Cheer still has thousands of loyal fans because she is an excellent musician.
When Cheer was young, her mother sent her to music classes to learn the piano. With great passion, she started to make her own music and won many competitions in college. She even traveled to Kenting to sell her work before entering the music scene. Since then, Cheer has created a large number of classic hits, like “In My Closet” (〈躺在你的衣櫃〉) and “Travel Is Meaningful”(〈旅行的意義〉). Every song from Cheer comes with heartfelt lyrics and music.
Today, Cheer tries to create different styles of music. She is not afraid of experimenting with new sounds. She and her band, The Verse, explore the world of electronic music (電子音樂). The new sound is very different from Cheer’s signature folk music (民謠音樂). Yet, it shows the diversity of her taste and talent.
With all her success, Cheer is still very humble and diligent. She pays great attention to each performance, so her fans can leave with the best memories. What will Cheer do next? It’s hard to say! Cheer is a free spirit and will always march to the beat of her own drum.
